The UAE hosts the regional workshop for the directors of marine departments

Dubai, April 23/ WAM/ The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation and coordination with the International Maritime Organization, hosted the “regional workshop for the directors of marine departments”, which comes as part of the preparations for the program of audit member states of the International Maritime Organization, within the framework of the state’s commitment to support international efforts to enhance marine safety standards and protect the marine environment.
The workshop, which continues until Friday, in Dubai, gathered a group of marine administrations managers from more than ten regional countries, in addition to experts from the International Maritime Organization, where the participants discussed the best international practices in the field of compliance with maritime agreements and treaties, and mechanisms for improving institutional performance in maritime administrations, which contributes to promoting marine safety and environmental preservation.
The workshop focused on raising the readiness of member states to scrutinize, by clarifying technical and administrative requirements, reviewing the experiences of the leading countries in this field, in addition to introducing the participants to the procedures related to the audit mechanism, and how to address the resulting observations, in order to support the commitment of member states to their international duties.
His Excellency Eng. Hessa Al -Malik, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs in the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, confirmed that the UAE hosting this regional workshop reflects its entrepreneurial position as a global marine center, and its active role in supporting the directions of the International Maritime Organization towards achieving the highest levels of safety and maritime sustainability.
She said that this workshop comes within the framework of the UAE’s commitment to enhancing international cooperation and exchanging experiences with the member states of the International Maritime Organization, and in line with the vision of our wise leadership in supporting the global marine system.
She added: “We are working hard to develop our national capabilities in managing the maritime sector according to the best international standards, in a way that establishes the UAE’s position among the best marine centers in the world, and supports our national marine transport strategy.”
The workshop recommended setting practical recommendations to enhance the readiness of countries for the upcoming audit programs, while emphasizing the importance of continuing cooperation between member states and the International Maritime Organization to support global maritime work and unify efforts towards a safer and sustainable sea future.
