UNCTAD Secretary-General: The 16th session is held at a critical time for global trade and multilateralism

The 16th session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 16) is scheduled to be held from 20 to 23 October.
In a press conference held in Geneva, Greenspan explained how countries are dealing with record debt, turbulent supply chains, volatile investment flows, and accelerating digital transformation.
She said: “Over the course of the four days of the conference, we will confront some of the most serious challenges in the global economy and economic geography of our time.”.
UNCTAD brings together 16 trade and finance ministers, heads of international organizations, Nobel laureates and economists to explore ways to make the global economy more predictable, inclusive and sustainable.
Greenspan reported that the number of ministers who will participate in the meetings is about 60 ministers, as well as 40 deputy ministers, while 1,700 people have already registered to attend the session.
She pointed out that this course will be held in “A critical time for global trade and multilateralism”.
The Secretary-General of UNCTAD confirmed that “Development is not a luxury, it is a necessity. We need to rebuild confidence in an economy that works for everyone.”.
