"Dubai Sports" Launches the largest edition of the Football Academies Championship

Dubai, October 23 / WAM / The Dubai Sports Council launched the “Dubai Open Football Academies Championship” (DOFA), the largest of its kind, which it organizes in cooperation with the Emirates Football Association and in partnership with Delta Aid Sports to organize sports events, as part of its efforts to support and develop young talents and enhance Dubai’s position as a global destination for sports.
The current edition of the tournament is the largest and most comprehensive since its inception, as it includes 12,000 players, male and female, forming 558 teams affiliated with 117 academies, including 40 girls’ teams, and the participating age groups extend from 6 to 23 years old.
The current participation represents a growth of about 9.1% in the number of players compared to the previous edition, which witnessed the participation of 11,000 male and female players, and an 11.6% increase in the number of teams, which was 500 teams from 100 academies.
The tournament will be held in a league system with one round in the group stage, followed by Super Cup competitions that bring together the group champions in the knockout stages.
The championship competitions will be completed throughout the sports season in 9 different regions, the most prominent of which is Dubai Sports City, allowing wide participation of teams from various emirates of the country and providing equal opportunities for players and academies.
The tournament reflects the interest of the Dubai Sports Council in the youth categories and academy players, in the context of the Dubai government’s approach aimed at attracting and developing talented people through integrated programs and is consistent with Dubai’s vision to develop the sports sector and support initiatives to discover and refine talent, in a way that enhances the progress of UAE football and supports the emirate’s position as a regional and global center for sports.
