Cairo Governor: The National Strategy for Urbanism and Green Building embodies the state’s commitment to sustainable development

Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, confirmed that the launch of the National Strategy for Urbanism and Green Building represents an advanced step towards achieving the Egyptian state’s vision for sustainable urban development, and reflects the government’s commitment to achieving a balance between the requirements of development and preserving the environment and its natural resources.
This came during the Governor of Cairo’s participation in the activities of the conference launching the National Strategy for Urbanism and Green Building, which was organized by the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities as part of the state’s efforts to enhance The concept of sustainable urban development and the adoption of the green building approach, which supports the achievement of Egypt’s 2030 vision for sustainable development and contributes to the development of Egyptian cities, raising the quality of life for citizens, and improving the efficiency of resource use. Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, Engineer Mohamed Shimi, Minister of Business Sector, Alaa El-Din Farouk, Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hanno, Minister of Culture, Counselor Adnan Fangri, Minister of Justice, and Engineer Adel Al-Najjar, Governor of Giza.
The Governor of Cairo indicated that the political leadership has stressed, since Egypt hosted the 12th World Urban Forum, the importance of shifting towards green urbanism as one of the pillars of Egypt’s Vision 2030, explaining that this Today, the vision is turning into a tangible reality through the new national strategy.
He added that the governorate is working to translate this vision into executive projects and field initiatives that contribute to improving the quality of life and supporting the transformation towards a sustainable city based on clean transportation, waste management, and energy conservation.
He pointed to a number of projects implemented in this framework, including the smart electric bus to reduce emissions and improve quality of life. Air, replacing traditional lighting units with energy-efficient ones, and developing the waste management system in Greater Cairo in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, in addition to developing historic Cairo and the vicinity of Fustat and establishing the Fustat Hills Park as the largest open environmental project in the Middle East, in addition to the project to develop the historic Azbakeya Park.
The governor explained that there is a plan to revive the urban heritage. And increasing the green area in the capital, so that Cairo returns to its cultural and civilizational role through an integrated vision that makes it a sustainable green city that combines protecting history and keeping pace with the future.
The Governor of Cairo stressed that the governorate will remain at the forefront of governorates supporting all initiatives that contribute to achieving sustainable development and green construction in implementation of the directives of the political leadership towards a more sustainable and prosperous urban future.
It aims Launching the strategy to develop a comprehensive national framework for sustainable urban planning and applying green building standards in Egyptian cities, thus enhancing their ability to confront environmental and climate challenges and supporting the transition towards more efficient and sustainable cities.
