cooperation "Egyptian – Australian" In food safety and sustainability
Dr. Tariq Al-Houbi, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority, received today Dr. Donna Bennett, Regional Agricultural Advisor at the Australian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, at the Authority’s headquarters in Cairo.
The meeting discussed ways to support technical cooperation and exchange experiences in the areas of food safety and develop supervisory systems for the food chain, which contributes to enhancing food security and ensuring the safety of food products. Traded locally and intended for export and food imports to Egyptian markets.
The meeting witnessed the discussion of a number of topics of common interest, most notably the strategy for traceability systems and food product recalls, and ways to benefit from Australian expertise in implementing effective traceability systems to ensure food safety, in addition to training and capacity-building programs for workers in the field of food safety. In order to support the Authority’s efforts to develop its technical cadres and enhance the efficiency of the supervision system in local markets.
The meeting was attended by the delegation accompanying Dr. Donna Bennett by Elizabeth Wright, Deputy Ambassador of Australia in Cairo, and Amanda Hodges, Director of Trade and Market Access at the Australian Meat and Livestock Corporation. (MLA).
During the meeting, Dr. Tariq Al-Houbi stressed the authority’s keenness to strengthen partnerships with relevant regional and international bodies and organizations, and to be open to successful experiences and expertise in this field, in a way that supports achieving the goals of sustainable development and Egypt’s 2030 vision in the field of food security.
For her part, Dr. Donna Bennett praised With the efforts of the National Food Safety Authority to develop the national food control system and raise the efficiency of inspection and tracking systems, stressing its readiness to support future areas of cooperation and enhance the exchange of experiences and good practices between the two sides.
