President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received, today, President Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, and from the Colombian side, Ms. Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Los Elena Martinez Casab, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Cairo, and Mr. Victor DeCoria, Presidential Advisor for Eastern Affairs. The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the President welcomed the Colombian President on his second visit to Egypt, praising the depth of the historical relations that bind the two countries, and affirming Egypt’s keenness to enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in the economic and trade aspects, and to continue joint coordination in international forums on priority issues for developing countries, most notably achieving sustainable development goals and confronting challenges. The official spokesman added that the meeting witnessed in-depth discussions on the prospects for cooperation in a number of vital sectors, including ways to enhance trade, new and renewable energy, aviation, and culture, in addition to discussing opportunities to exchange experiences in the field of combating transnational organized crime and combating terrorism.
The official spokesman indicated that the Colombian president expressed his appreciation for the growing bilateral relations between Egypt and Colombia, praising the development. noticeable in the volume of trade exchange over the past five years, stressing the importance of building on this boom to enhance intra-trade. He also congratulated the President on the occasion of the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, praising the historical achievement that this cultural edifice represents, and expressing his deep pride in the ancient Egyptian civilization.
The official spokesman added that the two presidents exchanged visions regarding the latest developments in regional situations, as the President reviewed the results of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and developments in implementing Agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, praising Colombia’s initiative to provide humanitarian aid to the Strip. The Colombian President appreciated the intensive efforts made by Egypt, under the leadership of Mr. President, to end the war and contain the humanitarian catastrophe, stressing the importance of full commitment to implementing the agreement to stop the war, and accelerating the launch of the reconstruction process, stressing Colombia’s readiness to effectively engage in efforts to implement the agreement to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, and its desire to continue providing humanitarian aid. In this context, Mr. President confirmed Egypt’s intention to host the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip in November 2025.
The official spokesman explained that the two presidents discussed a number of regional and international crises, stressing the need to settle them through peaceful means, while respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and preserving the capabilities of their peoples. They also agreed to continue coordination and intensify cooperation in areas of common interest.
