المملكة: By producing 5,000 seedlings, a farmer supplies the Kingdom’s markets with "Chinese canary"

Farmer Haider Al-Shakhal succeeded in transforming his farm in Qatif Governorate into a center for producing and exporting more than 5,000 seedlings of the Sidr tree “Canar” annually to various regions of the Kingdom, taking advantage of the hardiness of this tree and its superior ability to withstand harsh climatic conditions.

Al-Shakhal explained that the Sidr tree is distinguished by its strength and ability to adapt to High weather temperature and soil salinity, which are the features that made it a suitable tree for cultivation throughout the Kingdom.

He indicated that he is focusing on producing multiple types of Sidr, relying on grafting municipal assets with high-quality and desirable varieties in the market.

He added that Chinese Sidr tops the list of the most in-demand varieties, capturing approximately 70% of customers’ attention, which prompts him to focus production on it to meet market requirements.

This modern trend in the market is different from what fathers and grandfathers preferred in the past, where demand was focused on the “Buslim” type, which has a pitless red fruit.

Cultivation factors Al-Sidr

Al-Shakhal confirmed that the success of Cultivating Sidr and obtaining abundant production does not depend only on the hardness of the tree, but requires special and precise care, not unlike that provided to almond trees and other fruit trees.

He stressed the importance of taking care of the soil and providing the necessary fertilizers and medicines, especially during the flowering period, when special stabilizers can be used to ensure abundant production of fruits.

He pointed out that annual pruning of the tree is a necessary measure to strengthen it and stimulate it to grow. And producing better fruits every year, which reflects the deep experience that farmers have in dealing with this blessed tree.
