Health signs a cooperation protocol to support people with visual impairment

The Ministry of Health and Population announced the signing of a cooperation protocol with the “Baseera” Foundation, to support the integration of people with visual disabilities into society, by enhancing early detection and visual rehabilitation services.
The protocol was signed by Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health for Public Health Initiatives, and Dr. Doaa Mabrouk, Executive Director of the Foundation.
The protocol aims to conduct a comprehensive medical survey. For 50,000 students in schools in rural and deprived areas in Sohag and Qena governorates, to diagnose cases of poor vision and visual disabilities, while providing glasses and the necessary treatment. It also includes implementing awareness programs for rural teachers and pioneers about mechanisms for early detection and support for children with visual impairment.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the Ministry’s official spokesman, explained that cooperation focuses on developing detection and rehabilitation services in priority areas, and training medical personnel on the latest diagnostic and visual support mechanisms. For his part, Dr. Mohamed Hassani stressed that the survey aims to reach the most needy groups, ensuring the provision of comprehensive and sustainable care.
In the same context, Dr. Doaa Mabrouk indicated that the protocol includes training ophthalmologists nationwide in the field of visual impairment and the use of assistive devices, in addition to providing scholarships for the “Diploma of a Visual Impairment Specialist.” Which was established by the Foundation in cooperation with the Nile National University and the American University in Cairo, which strengthens national capabilities in this vital field.
