Argentine star Lionel Messi, the American Inter Miami striker, said that he imagined that he would spend his entire career in the Spanish club Barcelona, ​​expressing his intention to return again to the Catalan city, but he has not yet decided on the possibility of participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with his country’s national team.

Messi said in an interview with the Catalan newspaper “Sport”: “I always feel nostalgic for the past, and many emotions come over me whenever I hear something about Barcelona. These are amazing memories.”

He added: “I felt a strange feeling after leaving the team, because I played my last years without an audience due to the Corona pandemic.”

He continued, “After spending my whole life in Barcelona, ​​I did not leave the club in the way I imagined or dreamed of. Rather, I imagined that I would spend my entire life in Europe, and spend my entire career with Barcelona. This was my plan and my desire.”

He continued, “It seemed that the experience of moving to Paris Saint-Germain was a nightmare, but it was not. My family and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the city. Paris is a wonderful city, but I did not enjoy the daily routine of my work, whether in training or matches. I was not comfortable, frankly.”

He stressed, “I am seriously looking forward to returning again to Barcelona. I miss the city and the club very much, and I, my wife, and my colleagues always talk about that, and the idea of ​​living there again. I am also looking forward to returning to the Camp Nou stadium after its opening, because I have not returned to it since I moved to Paris and then the team moved its matches to Montjuïc.”

Regarding the possibility of his participation in the 2026 World Cup, he said, “Playing in the national team’s jersey is a wonderful feeling, especially in major tournaments like the World Cup, and it became even more wonderful after winning the title, but I repeat, I do not want to be a burden.”
