4500 experts in events "ICOM Dubai 2025"

Dubai, 11 November / WAM / Engineer Rashad Mohammed Bukhash, President of the Urban Heritage Society, said that Dubai’s hosting of the “ICOM Dubai 2025” conference, which is held under the slogan “The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Societies,” represents a historic achievement, as the city has outperformed many international cities, indicating that the current edition focuses on the future of museums in light of the rapid transformations witnessed by societies.

Bukhash explained in a statement to the Emirates News Agency that the conference will address various topics, most notably the role of artificial intelligence in museums and ways to preserve tangible and intangible heritage, with broad participation of researchers and specialists from various continents, stressing that civilizational development does not conflict with preserving cultural and heritage identity.

He pointed out that the number of museums around the world reached about 93 thousand museums according to 2024 statistics, led by the United States of America with about 33 thousand museums, followed by Germany, Japan, China and Britain, while the UAE witnessed a qualitative leap in this field, as the number of museums increased from only two museums in 1971 to about 230 museums today, including 65 government museums and 165 private museums covering various fields such as heritage, women, the sea, coffee, arts and geology, which reflects the level of The cultural progress achieved by the country.

For her part, Dr. Mona Al Ali, Vice President of ICOM UAE, confirmed that the conference in its 27th edition represents a global platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences among those working in the museum sector, noting the participation of more than 4,500 experts and specialists from 129 national committees from various countries, in addition to organizing lectures, seminars and field visits to the country’s museums.

She added that Dubai’s hosting of this event confirms its position as a global center for culture and innovation, calling on community members to visit museums for the educational, cultural and entertainment experiences they provide that enrich awareness and deepen the connection to human heritage.
