The Sheikh of Al-Azhar receives international thinker Jeffrey Sachs at his home in Luxor
He received His Eminence the Grand Imam A. D. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, President of the Muslim Council of Elders, today, Thursday, at the home of His Eminence in Qurna, Luxor Governorate, the international thinker, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, Professor of Economics and Head of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in the United States.
The meeting discussed friendly conversations about the most prominent developments on the global scene, especially the challenges facing the region; His Eminence expressed his appreciation for Professor Jeffrey Sachs’s fair positions and writings, especially with regard to Gaza and Palestine, which reflect a wise mentality, well aware that the message of all religions calls for supporting the oppressed regardless of religion, gender or race, and for promoting true coexistence based on equality, rights and human dignity.
For his part, Professor Jeffrey Sachs expressed his great happiness. He was honored to meet the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, and his appreciation for His Eminence’s courageous stances in spreading world peace and human brotherhood, stressing that the voice of the good Imam represents the voice of truth and humanity, and the world must listen to her views carefully, stressing at the same time his pride in this visit to Egypt and Luxor, and his happiness in visiting the Al-Azhar Mosque, this pioneering scientific edifice that radiates light and knowledge to the entire world.
