The most prominent fruits of the Ministry of Environment’s harvest within 7 days

 

The Media Center of the Ministry of Environment issued the “Weekly Report” on the most prominent activities and events of the Ministry, led by Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, during the period from November 8-14, 2025.

Urban development and climate change

The report stated that the most prominent activities and events were:

Organized by the Ministry of Environment in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program "Habitat" A dialogue session in Qena Governorate, entitled “Urban development and tourism in light of climate change,” in the presence of Dr. Khaled Abdel Halim  The Governor of Qena, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Environment and the Director of the Basic Services and Climate Change Program at the United Nations Human Settlements Program “Habitat”, and a number of government agencies, the private sector and civil society organizations.

 The dialogue activities addressed the most prominent urban and tourism challenges facing Qena Governorate in light of climate change, and the role of the United Nations Human Settlements Program in supporting the country’s efforts to adapt to them. 

Awareness Community 

The regional branches of the Ministry of Environment in Mansoura and Alexandria implemented a series of awareness-raising events and seminars under the slogan “Our Mediterranean…Our Future”,  It targeted segments of society, including schools, universities, local units, civil society organizations, Al-Azhar, churches, and fishermen.

This comes in preparation for Egypt hosting the twenty-fourth summit of the Barcelona Convention (COP24) to protect the Mediterranean environment from pollution, which is scheduled to start next December. 

Preserving the environment 

 The regional branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency in the Central Delta In Tanta, an intensive series of seminars and awareness events were implemented in a number of schools and institutes in the Gharbia and Menoufia governorates, targeting students, workers, and members of the local community, with the aim of spreading the culture of environmental conservation, and introducing contemporary environmental challenges from climate change, global warming, and the harms of the use of plastic, in addition to highlighting the goals of the Barcelona Conference and the importance of protecting the marine environment of the Mediterranean. This comes within Egypt’s preparations to host the Twenty-Fourth Conference of the Parties (COP24) to the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment in the Mediterranean during the month of December. The State of the Environment in Egypt 

 Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, announced the completion of the State of the Environment Report in Egypt for the year 2023, and its launch on the Ministry of Environment’s website, within the framework of strengthening national efforts aimed at protecting the environment and preserving natural resources, to be an embodiment of the Egyptian state’s commitment to integrating the environmental dimension into all development paths, in fulfillment of Egypt’s Vision 2030, and in response to local challenges. And regional and international environmental issues.

Air Pollution Management

Within the framework of the directives of Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment, to follow up and continuously coordinate the implementation of the activities of the third component of the " Air Pollution and Climate Change Management in Greater Cairo" Dedicated to reducing vehicle emissions by supporting the experience of electric buses in the public sector, the project team “ Air Pollution and Climate Change Management in Greater Cairo" By holding an expanded meeting headed by Dr. Engineer Essam El-Sheikh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cairo Public Transport Authority, and in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Hassan, the national coordinator of the project, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, and Dr. Nobuhiko Daito from the World Bank mission, in order to follow up  The executive position to supply 100 electric buses for the Authority and develop the Al-Amiriya garage to become the main warehouse for operating these buses.

Environment and Electricity Cooperation 

 Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of the Environment, and Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, held coordination meetings at the headquarters of the Ministry of Electricity in the Administrative Capital to discuss ways of cooperation and joint work on issues of the environment and new and renewable energies, and to support the projects of bodies affiliated with the Ministry of Electricity. , especially the Nuclear Materials Authority in the areas of research, exploration, extraction and extraction of earthly ores, rare elements and materials, reducing carbon emissions, preserving the environment, and complying with international regulatory requirements.

The meeting focused on consensus on the organization of work and mechanisms used in some sites within the jurisdiction of the Nuclear Materials Authority, completing research, exploration and extraction operations, and taking into account environmental requirements, reflecting the state’s commitment to preserving biological diversity.

Developing the Center of Excellence

Convened by Dr. Manal Awad The Minister of Local Development held a meeting with Dr. Ashraf Shaalan, head of the Center of Excellence for Research and Applied Studies of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, and former head of the National Research Center; To discuss the center’s development plan and learn about its goals and what was accomplished during the previous period, in the presence of Dr. Ali Abusna, CEO of the Environmental Affairs Agency, Engineer Sherif Abdel Rahim, Assistant Minister for Climate Change Policies, and Dr. Fajr Abdel Jawad, Dean of the Environment and Climate Change Research Institute, Deputy Director of the Center of Excellence, and former Acting President of the National Research Center.
