Foreign Minister: We value the bilateral relations between Egypt and Switzerland and look forward to more cooperation between the two countries

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, praised the bilateral relations between Egypt and Switzerland, which this year celebrates the 90th anniversary of its inauguration… expressing his aspiration for more cooperation between the two countries in various political, economic, and commercial fields. This came during the Minister of Foreign Affairs’ reception, today, Saturday, of Counselor “Beit Yans” The Swiss Minister of Justice and Police, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Switzerland and consult on regional and international issues of common interest.
Minister Abdel-Aty welcomed cooperation in the field of development between the two countries and the signing of the new cooperation program between Egypt and Switzerland for the years 2025-2028, which includes the areas of good governance, sustainable economic development, and immigration, praising the establishment of the joint economic committee and a chamber of commerce between Egypt and Switzerland, which are expected to contribute. In improving trade and investment relations between the two countries.
He stressed the importance of increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, encouraging Swiss investments in various infrastructure sectors such as railways and renewable energy, and supporting its participation in huge national projects such as the Suez Canal Economic Zone and new cities.
Minister Abdel Aty noted the interest in enhancing cooperation in the fields of technical education, vocational training, and tourism, as well as the immigration file, in which context he reviewed the efforts made. Egypt is making efforts in the field of combating illegal immigration and hosting nearly 10 million foreigners, stressing the need to address the issue from its roots according to a comprehensive vision and approach that takes into account security and development aspects.
He also pointed to the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries through the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping, which holds many workshops and training programs in the fields of peacekeeping and peacebuilding. The country’s wealth and heritage and the recovery of Egyptian antiquities that were illegally exited… Pointing out that more than 70 pieces have been returned and work continues to recover all the pieces that were illegally exited, especially with the establishment of the Grand Egyptian Museum and other museums during the last ten years, stressing the need for a serious discussion about this important file.
With regard to regional developments, Minister Abdel Aty briefed the Swiss official on the tireless efforts that Egypt is making to stabilize the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and its implementation. He reviewed the ongoing preparations for holding the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza and looked forward to Switzerland’s effective participation in the conference’s activities.
The discussions also touched on developments in the situation in Sudan, where the Foreign Minister stressed the importance of a ceasefire and creating conditions to launch a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and stability, denouncing the horrific violations and atrocities that the city witnessed. El Fasher, which requires the concerted efforts of the international community to support the Sudanese people and support their national institutions.
For his part, Counselor Yans appreciated the pivotal role that Egypt plays in the region and His Excellency the President of the Republic’s hosting of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Conference… praising Egypt’s role in achieving security and stability in the region.
The Swiss Minister also appreciated Egypt’s hosting of large numbers of refugees, expressing his country’s deep appreciation for this position, stressing that by agreeing on bilateral cooperation in the field Immigration, this will contribute to enhancing close cooperation between the two countries, enhance joint efforts to support the most vulnerable groups, and advance a partnership that contributes to achieving the interests of the two countries.
At the end of the consultations, the two ministers signed, following the discussions, an agreement to declare intentions for bilateral cooperation in the field of immigration, and standard operating procedures between Egypt and Switzerland, as well as an agreement for mutual exemption from visas for holders of diplomatic passports between Egypt and Switzerland.
