Increase the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and African Union countries by 7.6% in 2024

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics confirmed that the volume of trade exchange between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the countries of the African Union reached $9.9 billion during the year 2024, compared to $9.2 billion during the year 2023, an increase of 7.6%.
This came on the occasion of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics’ celebration today, Tuesday, of African Census Day, which all countries of the African continent commemorate on the eighteenth of November. Every year since the establishment of this day in 1990 by the Joint African Conference of Statisticians and Demographers, within the framework of strengthening African cooperation and supporting sustainable development efforts.
The agency affirmed its firm commitment to supporting the updating of official data and statistics to advance economic transformation on the continent, as the agency plays a leading role in publishing accurate data that contributes to building effective economic and social policies that enhance sustainable growth and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals on the continent.
He noted that he is continuing his efforts to enhance statistical cooperation between African countries through the agency’s participation and support for all regional initiatives and strategies to develop statistics on the African continent, by committing to implementing the strategy for coordinating and harmonizing statistics in Africa (SHASA2), and the COMESA strategy for developing statistics in order to support the Africa 2063 agenda, and ensuring the consistency of the strategy for developing national statistics in Egypt with regional strategies in Africa… noting that it issues two press releases, the first deals with economic relations. between Egypt and the African Union countries, explaining that it reviews the most prominent indicators of trade cooperation between the countries of the continent.
He noted that the second highlights developments in population growth on the African continent and the associated challenges and development opportunities that support sustainable development efforts in Africa.
He stated that the total value of Egyptian exports to the African Union countries reached $7.8 billion in 2024 compared to $7.4 billion in 2023, an increase of 5.4%, adding that the highest values were concentrated in five countries at a rate of 69.1% of Egypt’s total exports to African countries in 2024, explaining that the ranking of countries was as follows: Libya: The value of exports amounted to ($2.0 billion), representing 25.6% of Egypt’s total exports to African countries, while the value of exports in Morocco reached ($1.1 billion), representing 14.1% of Egypt’s total exports to countries. He continued that the value of exports in Algeria reached ($1.0 billion), representing 12.8% of Egypt’s total exports to African countries. As for Sudan, the value of exports amounted to ($884 million), representing 11.5% of Egypt’s total exports to African countries. He pointed out that the value of exports in Tunisia reached ($369 million), representing 5.1% of Egypt’s total exports to African countries.
He added that the order of the most important exported commodities was as follows: cement of all kinds and salt, the value of exports amounted to ($700 million) at a rate of 9.0% of the total goods, plastics and their products, the value of exports reached ($593 million) at a rate of 7.7% of the total goods, mill products (flour and grain starch), the value of exports amounted to ($410 million) at a rate of 5.1% of the total. Goods.
He pointed out that the volume of Egyptian imports from African Union countries reached $2.1 billion in 2024, compared to $1.8 billion in 2023, an increase of 16.7%, adding that the highest values were concentrated in five countries, accounting for 80.7% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries in the year 2024.
The ranking of the countries was as follows: The value of imports from the Democratic Republic of the Congo reached ($662 million), representing 33.3% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries, while the value of imports in Sudan amounted to ($293 million), representing 14.3% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries, while the value of Kenya’s imports amounted to ($260 million). 14.2% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries. He explained that the value of imports in Nigeria amounted to ($165 million), representing 9.5% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries, while in South Africa, the value of imports amounted to ($158 million), representing 9.4% of Egypt’s total imports from African countries.
He confirmed that the order of the most important imported goods was as follows: Copper and its products, and the value of imports amounted to ($742 million). 33.3% of the total goods, while the value of coffee, tea and spices imports amounted to ($287 million) at a rate of 14.3% of the total goods, and fuel and mineral oils amounted to ($204 million) at a rate of 9.5% of the total goods, while the value of live animal imports amounted to ($148 million) at a rate of 4.8% of the total. Goods.
Regarding trade exchange with the most important African economic blocs, the agency confirmed that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the Sahel and Sahara countries reached $6.9 billion in 2024, compared to $6.5 billion in 2023, an increase of 6.2%, while the value of total exports to the Sahel and Sahara countries reached $5.9 billion in 2024, compared to $5.6 billion in 2023. with an increase of 5.4%.
He stated that the value of total imports from the Sahel and Sahara countries amounted to $1,049 million in 2024, compared to $924 million in 2023, with an increase of 13.5%, noting that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and COMESA countries reached $5.9 billion in 2024, compared to $5.8 billion in 2023, with an increase of 1.7%, while the value of total exports to COMESA countries reached $4.4 billion in 2024, compared to $4.2 billion in 2023, an increase of 4.8%. He explained that the value of total imports from COMESA countries reached $1.5 billion in 2024, compared to $1.6 billion in 2023, a decrease of 6.3%, while the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the Nile Basin countries reached $2.9 billion in 2024, compared to $3.0 billion in 2023, a decrease of 3.3%. He pointed out that the value of total exports to the Nile Basin countries amounted to $1.6 billion in 2024, compared to $1.7 billion in 2023, a decrease of 5.9%, while the value of total imports from the Nile Basin countries reached $1.3 billion in 2024 and the same value in 2023.
It is noteworthy that this year’s celebration coincides with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s announcement of the launch of Activities of the fifth edition of the African Union Awareness Week on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development; This will take place during the period from November 17 to 23, 2025, under the title “Rebuilding Life After Conflict through Compensatory Justice,” the main activities of which will be held in Cairo this year, and African Statistics Day will be celebrated this year under the slogan “Utilizing innovations in data and statistics to promote justice, peace, inclusivity, and a prosperous society for Africans.”
