A telephone call between the Foreign Minister and his Iraqi counterpart

A telephone call took place today, Wednesday, between Dr. Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Affairs of Egyptians Abroad, and Dr. Fouad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the sisterly Republic of Iraq, within the framework of continuous consultation and coordination between the two countries on ways to strengthen bilateral relations and regional issues of common interest.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers stressed during the call their pride in the depth of the historical relations between Egypt and Iraq, and the keenness of both sides to continue developing joint cooperation in the economic, investment and development fields. Opportunities for strengthening partnership in various fields and expanding the participation of Egyptian companies in implementing development projects in Iraq were also discussed in a way that serves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.

The call also addressed developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip, where Minister Abdel-Aty reviewed the ongoing Egyptian efforts to consolidate the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement, stressing the importance of implementing the plan’s provisions in a way that guarantees a permanent ceasefire, improves humanitarian conditions, and creates conditions for reconstruction. The two ministers also discussed current regional developments, and stressed the importance of continuing consultation between Cairo and Baghdad on issues of common interest, including supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in the region and enhancing joint Arab action.
