"Environment – Abu Dhabi" "and"Ahmed Al Falasi Wooden Ships Manufacturing" They showcase marine sustainability at Abu Dhabi Boating

ABU DHABI, 20 November / WAM / The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi participated in the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show, where it presented its latest initiatives and programs aimed at protecting marine systems, preserving local species, and developing fish wealth resources.
During its participation, the Authority reviewed innovative projects that support environmental sustainability and enhance the emirate’s efforts in managing natural resources and ensuring their sustainability for future generations.
Hamad Al Mansouri, Head of the Aquaculture Unit at the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the “Dalma Fish” project, which was established in 2024, represented a pioneering step as the first project of its kind in the emirate targeting the cultivation of local species with the aim of reducing pressure on natural fish stocks, supporting the aquaculture sector and encouraging investment in this field.
He explained that the project included six floating cages designed to produce about 100 tons of local fish, such as oyster, shaari, safi, and shaam, noting that the selection of the project site was based on careful scientific studies to ensure the best environmental conditions.
He added that the project was equipped with a monitoring system based on artificial intelligence techniques, through underwater cameras and sensors that measure the quality of sea water and track the behavior of fish, their weights and the efficiency of their feeding, where the data is uploaded to a smart platform for analysis and to support sound operational decision-making.
He pointed out that the Authority, in cooperation with its strategic partners, developed a drone dedicated to feeding fish, which is the first of its kind in the world, and contributes to reducing the carbon footprint and reducing the time and operational cost of feeding.
He stressed that the “Dalmah Fish” project constitutes a sustainable model for producing high-quality local species, and supports the UAE’s efforts to enhance food security by providing sustainable fish for future generations without harming marine biodiversity.
The Ahmed Obaid Al Falasi Wooden Ship Manufacturing Factory also participated in the exhibition, where it presented a collection of traditional handcrafted boats that reflect the country’s ancient maritime heritage. During its participation, the factory reviewed the techniques of building wooden ships and preserving the authentic Emirati craft, in addition to developing models that meet the needs of fishermen and those interested in the maritime sector in a manner that combines quality and heritage character.
Ahmed Al Falasi, owner of the Ahmed Obaid Al Falasi Wooden Ship Manufacturing Factory, confirmed that the factory’s participation in the exhibition was a continuation of its efforts to highlight Emirati maritime crafts and preserve the traditional wooden ship industry, pointing out that this craft represents an integral part of the country’s maritime heritage.
He explained that the factory displayed during its participation a group of wooden boats handcrafted according to high standards that reflect the precision of the workmanship and the quality of the materials used, pointing out that these models meet the needs of fishermen and those interested in the maritime sector, and at the same time highlight the development witnessed in this field while preserving its heritage character.
He added that the factory continues to develop traditional work techniques with modern methods that ensure the sustainability of the craft and its transmission to future generations, stressing that these efforts enhance the presence of local marine industries and support the UAE’s position in this vital sector.
