Cosmin continues with the national team… and the Arab Cup is his new mission

Emirates Al-Youm learned that the Football Association has officially decided the issue of Romanian Elario Cosmin continuing as head of the national team’s technical staff, as he has a contract with him until 2027, so that his next mission will be to lead the Whites in the Arab Cup scheduled for the Qatari capital, Doha, from the first to the 18th of next December.

The decision comes after the team’s exit from the Asian qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup.

The team, under the leadership of Cosmin, is expected to begin an internal gathering in Dubai in preparation for traveling to Doha next Friday in preparation for participation in the Arab Cup. The team will play in the third group alongside Egypt, Jordan, and the qualifier from the match between Kuwait and Mauritania. Cosmin is expected to announce the new team list, which is expected to include the same elements that recently participated in the World Cup qualifiers, with minor changes.

The team’s dream of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup was dashed after the last loss to Iraq by two goals to one, in the return match in the Asian playoff in the qualifying round for the World Cup, after the first leg in Abu Dhabi ended in a positive 1-1 draw.

The national team’s coach, Cosmin, had previously confirmed in media statements after the Iraq match that he preferred to participate in the Arab Cup with the first team instead of the U-23 team.

Al-Abyad will launch its journey in the Arab Cup by meeting its counterpart, the Jordanian national team, on the third of next month, and facing the Egyptian national team on the sixth of the same month.
