Sharjah, 25 November / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, approved a package of major media projects in Sharjah Media City “Shams”, which represents a qualitative leap in the development of the media infrastructure in the emirate, and establishes an advanced model for the integration of government agencies working within the Sharjah Media Council.

These projects come within the vision and interest of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, who leads efforts to unify and coordinate government media work, and move it to a more powerful and influential system.

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi stressed that the adoption of the “Shams” project package embodies the emirate’s vision of building an advanced media sector based on innovation, international partnerships and contemporary technologies, noting that the launch of “Shams Studios” will enhance the emirate’s ability to attract the most prominent production companies and content makers, and will also provide a professional platform for national competencies to develop their skills and expand their presence in the media industry.

His Highness stressed that investing in media is an investment in people and identity, and that Sharjah is moving confidently towards strengthening its cultural and knowledge presence globally through responsible media, strategic partnerships, and an advanced system that supports sustainable growth in this vital sector.

The project will witness the establishment of the largest unified government media cluster in the Emirates and the region, as it will include the media entities affiliated with the Sharjah government, namely: the Sharjah Media Council, the Sharjah Government Media Office, and the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, in addition to Sharjah Media City “Shams”, which will be the new headquarters for this cluster.

The “Shams Studios” project comes to establish the most advanced production environment in the region, through the establishment of a complex that includes five major studios, with different areas ranging from 1,500 square meters to 3,400 square meters, that meet the needs of film, series, and content makers, in addition to specialized post-production facilities that include montage, visual effects, and sound design units, allowing the implementation of television and cinematic works according to the highest international standards.

The approved projects also include the development of an integrated government media business complex that brings together under one roof the Sharjah Media Council, the Sharjah Government Media Office, and the media companies operating within Shams, in an interactive work environment that supports innovation, facilitates production and broadcasting operations, and enhances the efficiency of government communication.

The complex will include four specialized buildings, each building consisting of a ground floor and four floors, including a building for the Sharjah Media Council, a building for the Sharjah Government Media Office, and two buildings designated for media entities and companies operating within “Shams.”

The development also includes the construction of a new building for the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, which has a modern technical structure, which increases the authority’s readiness to keep pace with developments in broadcasting and production technologies, and enhances its ability to provide diverse, high-quality content that reflects the emirate’s identity and mission. The first phase will consist of the administrative building, the news building, and the Sharjah Sports Channel building.

In the context of supporting the cultural and creative scene in Sharjah, the new projects include “Shams Oasis for Creativity”, an advanced center for artistic and educational events, which includes a modern theater that can accommodate 700 people, and facilities dedicated to hosting community events, artistic performances and training programs, which contributes to the development of young talents and provides an inspiring platform for creativity.
