In a round for “ launched by , the event emerged as a witness to a growing Saudi presence in the design and furniture industry, and an entry point into a broad international dialogue that seeks to redefine the features of contemporary architecture.
It also represents an intellectual space through workshops in which craft is juxtaposed and gives architecture and design a renewed and sustainable spirit that gives design a new, more open and expansive language.
The “Salone del Mobile – Milan” exhibition
The president of the “Salone del Mobile – Milan” exhibition stated “Salone del Mobile, Milan” exhibition, Maria Porro – one of the most prominent leaders in the world of design and architecture – stressed that the idea of the event, from its inception, relied on establishing an honest dialogue between the Italian design community and its Saudi counterpart.
She added: The exhibition, as she says, did not come only to display products, but rather to create an interaction space in which designers, architects, producers and academics from the two countries meet to build together.
A unique Saudi model
She mentioned in her speech that the Kingdom – Specifically, Riyadh – is considered one of the most interesting environments for international design makers, because of its ancient heritage and cultural experience that exceeds expectations.
She stopped at her visit to AlUla, describing the experience as a visual and emotional mixture linking the open desert, silent architectural details, and a history carved within the vast nature.
She stressed that the Kingdom today presents a unique model that combines identity and modernity, and creates a fertile environment for experimentation and creativity.

Saudi Architecture
Boro believes that the success of architecture is not complete without interior design that takes into account the human experience in the place. Light, matter, movement, and the connection of daily details to the aesthetics of living. Here, she believes that the partnership with Saudi Arabia is capable of creating an integrated platform that blends Italian skill with Saudi craftsmanship, which opens wide horizons for manufacturers from both sides.
Speaking about the exhibition held for the first time in Riyadh, she expressed her happiness with the partnership that created this presence, noting that dialogue between cultures is the first pillar of any sustainable cooperation, and she gave an example of a dinner that brought together Saudi and Italian chefs to create a new culinary experience that would not have been possible without it. The two experiences are mixed, saying: “Design is not only a beautiful piece, but an idea born from the meeting of two cultures.”
Porro concludes by stressing that the Saudi and Italian teams worked shoulder to shoulder during the past months, as the event was built through shared ideas and mutual trust, which makes her believe that what is coming will be broader and more inspiring, and that the future that is being formed between the two countries today is not a passing project, but rather a global design path that is born from Riyadh and extends to the world.
