The Speaker of the House of Representatives inaugurates the work of the Parliamentary Assembly Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Summit of Speakers of Parliaments

Counsel Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, opened the work of the Parliamentary Assembly Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Summit of Speakers of Parliaments, which the House of Representatives is hosting during the period from 28 to 29 November 2025 in the framework of the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the launch of the Barcelona Process, in the presence of Mohamed Abu Al-Enein, Deputy of the House of Representatives and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, Tulia Axon, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and Mohamed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament. At the beginning of the speech, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, Speaker of the House of Representatives, pointed out that the Barcelona Process, which we are meeting today on the anniversary of its launch, constituted a historical milestone and a cornerstone for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, which places it among the most important international models for achieving comprehensive regional cooperation, stressing that the forum represents a real opportunity to review the process of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, to evaluate what has been achieved, and to look realistically and courageously at the challenges facing our Euro-Mediterranean region as a space. One civilization and an intertwined and inseparable destiny.
During the speech, Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gebali stressed that the Euro-Mediterranean region is witnessing unprecedented challenges of political turmoil, extended conflicts, and regional tensions that threaten the collective security structure, which casts a serious shadow on the security and stability of the entire region, noting that Egypt hosted the Sharm El-Sheikh International Peace Summit in the presence of the most prominent world leaders to form a basis for And a roadmap for establishing and achieving just and lasting peace in the entire Middle East. The Council President stressed that sustainable stability cannot be achieved without real economic growth felt by our peoples, indicating that the Egyptian state has an ambitious vision for the Euro-Mediterranean region, which is summed up in the urgent importance of strengthening commercial and energy linkage projects between the two shores of the Mediterranean, supporting the green transformation, encouraging investment and facilitating the transfer of technology and knowledge.
The Advisor Dr. Hanafi stressed Gebali stressed that the Euro-Mediterranean partnership is not an option, but rather a strategic necessity imposed by geography, history, the intertwining of interests, and the voice of peoples who aspire to security, prosperity, and justice, and Egypt will remain a presidency and parliament that will continue to support every effort that enhances regional cooperation and consolidates the values of peace, development, and solidarity.
