The Palestinian state is the only solution to the conflict with Israel

The Pope of the Vatican said on Sunday that the only solution to the decades-long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians must include the establishment of a Palestinian state, in confirmation of the Vatican’s position on this issue.

The Pope said, speaking in Italian, “We are also friends of Israel, and we seek to be a mediating voice between the two parties to help them approach a solution that achieves justice for all.”

The Pope spoke during a brief eight-minute press conference in which he focused on his visit to Turkey, which began on Thursday and continued until Sunday, in his first foreign trip since his election in May as leader of the Catholic Church.

The Pope said that he discussed with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as the Ukrainian-Russian conflict, and stressed that Türkiye plays an important role in helping to end the two wars.
