Endowments: Four axes to confront extremism, build humanity, and create civilization

Dr. Osama Raslan – the official spokesman, Director General of the Media Office of the Ministry of Endowments, delivered two lectures within the program of the tenth session of the OIC Radio and Television Union, held under the title: “Skills for Addressing Religion in a Contemporary Language and a Moderate Vision,” at the headquarters of the International Endowments Academy, which is hosting the session from 1 to 7 of this December.
At the beginning of the lecture, the official spokesman welcomed the participants, stressing the importance of this session. Meetings to exchange expertise and experiences, and improve the skills of addressing religious issues in the media in a way that enhances moderate discourse and confronts current intellectual challenges.
The first lecture dealt with: “The Ministry of Endowments’ Strategy and Future Vision,” in which it reviewed the four axes on which the Ministry’s strategy is based, which are: combating religious extremism, combating non-religious extremism, building humanity, and creating civilization. Dr. Raslan explained that awareness represents the basis for these axes, pointing out two main problems facing awareness: its high cost amid surrounding influences, and its need for continuous follow-up to ensure its impact. Emphasizing that awareness, according to the Ministry’s vision, proceeds along three paths that sometimes converge and sometimes parallel, which are: proactive awareness, therapeutic awareness, leading to sustainability of awareness. He also stressed that the absence of religious motive leads to practices that have nothing to do with religion, and that eliminating extremism paves the way for building humanity and civilization.
The second lecture, entitled “Media Misinformation and Negative Propaganda Methods,” discussed the types of rumors and methods of promoting them, indicating that the majority of rumors are based on part of the truth with the addition of exaggerations or distortions, and spread quickly through social media platforms. He stressed that rumor mongers rely on emotional arousal, dissemination of distorted information, repetition, and targeted targeting, with the aim of creating a misleading public opinion or a state of confusion, stressing that media awareness and verifying sources of information through a religious, psychological, and legal perspective, and also through communication sciences, represents the first line of defense against this. The Ministry’s spokesman concluded his lecture by affirming that Egypt today possesses a comprehensive and integrated vision that has enabled it to excel in planning and construction methodology, which is clearly reflected in the awareness and training programs adopted by the Ministry of Endowments.
