Trump attends the 2026 World Cup draw

The White House announced that US President Donald Trump will attend the group stage draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in Washington, DC, next Friday.
“On Friday, President Trump will attend the lottery at the Kennedy Center,” White House spokeswoman Carolyn Leavitt told reporters.
It is unclear whether Trump will attend the ceremony as a guest of honor or will actively participate in it.
There has been speculation recently about the possibility of Trump receiving the new FIFA Peace Prize, which the federation wants to award “to individuals who have taken exceptional and extraordinary measures for peace, and through which they have contributed to uniting the peoples of the world.”
The United States will host the tournament jointly with Mexico and Canada, and the World Cup, which will begin in June 2026, will be the largest edition in the history of the World Cup, which was first launched in 1930, with the participation of 48 teams for the first time.
Trump recently threatened to withdraw matches from host cities if there was no security guarantee, and he singled out Seattle and Los Angeles. When asked how long it would take to move the competitions to another city, the President of the United States did not give a clear answer.
Trump has always claimed that crime in many American cities is out of control and can only be controlled under his leadership, claims that are not supported by crime statistics.
