Minister of Health: The political leadership places the health file and respiratory diseases at the top of the national priorities

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population, stressed that the political leadership attaches exceptional importance to the entire health system, and the file of respiratory diseases in particular, in view of the escalation of global challenges in this field and its transformation into a major health and economic burden.

 

This came during his speech at the opening of the twenty-fourth annual scientific conference of the Egyptian Scientific Bronchology Society, which is held over two days with the participation of an elite group of experts. Egyptians, Africans and internationals with the aim of exchanging the latest scientific and therapeutic developments in the field of thoracic and respiratory diseases.

The Minister explained that the Egyptian state is moving at steady and clear steps to develop the health system, especially in light of the increasing rates of chronic respiratory diseases and the recurrence of global pandemics approximately every 6-7 years, which has made the specialty of the thoracic and respiratory system one of the medical specialties most in need of continuous renewal and development.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar reviewed some worrying global numbers, noting that He pointed out that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease causes about 5% of the total deaths in the world, while asthma claims the lives of more than a thousand people every day, stressing that confronting these challenges requires joint efforts that include combating smoking, improving air quality, and expanding respiratory rehabilitation programs that significantly improve the quality of life of patients.

The minister praised the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Scientific Bronchology Society and the African Thoracic Society in supporting continuous medical training, raising the efficiency of health care providers, and producing scientific research that supports industry. The resolution called for strengthening regional and international scientific cooperation to develop primary care and improve health policies.

At the conclusion of his speech, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar called for adopting a multi-sectoral approach that combines environmental, health, and educational policies, stressing that regional and international partnerships are the best way to reduce gaps in care, reduce mortality rates, and improve the quality of life for millions of patients suffering from respiratory diseases.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health Affairs and Prevention, praised, at the level of scientific organization of the conference, stressing that the state will spare no effort in providing all the necessary capabilities to achieve a real breakthrough in this vital file.

Dr. Tarek Safwat, Professor of Chest Diseases at Ain Shams University, President of the Society and President of the Conference, also thanked the Minister of Health and Population for the continuous support, pointing out that modern treatments and the biological revolution are now providing effective treatment options even for severe cases and recurrent seizures, which enhances the quality of life of millions of Egyptian patients.
