The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy participates in the Digital Governance Forum and the World Bank meetings in Geneva

Geneva, 5 December / WAM / The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy participated in a series of high-level international events in Geneva, which included the Global Forum for Digital Governance Solutions “GovTech Deep-Dive”, and the “Trust Valley Day 2025” events, in addition to in-depth meetings with the World Bank, to discuss enhancing cooperation in digital economy projects at the Arab level, including the Arab Index for the Digital Economy and the Arab Digital Projects Platform.
The Union delegation was headed by His Excellency Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Khoury, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity, Chairman of the Union’s Board of Directors.
The forum discussed the most prominent global trends in “GovTech” technologies and digital solutions that support the efficiency of government institutions, improve services, raise levels of transparency, and prepare them for future technological transformations.
The sessions, which were organized by the World Bank with the participation of government delegations, international experts, and global technical institutions, stressed the importance of developing strategic partnerships between governments and the private sector to enhance digital transformation projects, and exchange experiences in the fields of artificial intelligence, government data, institutional transformation, and digital security.
The Union also participated in the “Trust Valley Day 2025” events, which addressed the topics of digital trust and data security, and reviewed the latest applications supporting innovation in the fields of cybersecurity, in addition to the presentations of startup companies within the “Tech4Trust” program to accelerate innovation in Europe.
The Union delegation in Geneva attended the “GovTech Innovation Challenge 2025” awards ceremony, organized by the World Bank in cooperation with the Government of Switzerland, where the winners of the global challenge aimed at developing innovative solutions in the areas of digital governance were announced.
On the sidelines of the events, the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy held a joint meeting with the World Bank team, to discuss areas of cooperation in Arab initiatives for digital transformation, most notably the Arab Index for the Digital Economy and the Arab Projects Platform for Digital Transformation.
The World Bank praised the UAE initiative to develop the Arab vision for the digital economy and build the Arab Index, stressing that the UAE has become an advanced global model in digital development thanks to its advanced technical structure and strategic vision based on innovation.
For his part, Dr. Ali Al-Khoury explained that cooperation with the World Bank constitutes a pivotal step for developing the methodologies of the Arab Index, by enhancing the World Bank’s participation in the technical committees, which contributes to raising the efficiency of evaluation tools and ensuring a more accurate reflection of the reality of the digital economy in Arab countries.
The two sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the Arab projects platform for digital transformation, which the Union is developing in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the ESCWA Committee, with the aim of establishing an official Arab system for collecting and classifying digital economy projects, aligning them with the Arab digital agenda, and improving their access to financing and international partnerships.
Dr. Al-Khoury stressed that these participations and meetings constitute a practical framework to enhance international cooperation in the digital economy, and provide the opportunity for Arab countries to benefit from advanced global experiences to build a flexible and advanced digital infrastructure that meets the needs of the future.
He added that the Union will continue to work with international partners to support the development of Arab digital policies and projects in accordance with international best practices, in a way that enhances economic development and achieves Arab digital integration.
