Raising the efficiency of infrastructure and communications services in hotels and tourist villages in Hurghada

In light of the directives of the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities to improve the quality of services provided within hotel establishments, tourist villages and floating hotels, and to enhance the digital experience for guests in line with international standards, and in line with the presidential initiative to raise the efficiency of infrastructure and communications services in the tourism sector, a joint committee from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology carried out field tours on a number of hotel establishments of categories (3–4–5 stars) in the city of Hurghada in the Red Sea Governorate, to follow up Its commitment to the minimum level of high-speed Internet services.

Mohamed Amer, Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops and Tourist Activities, explained that the Ministry periodically pushes these committees to all tourist destinations included within the scope of the work of the Presidential Initiative, in order to verify the application of standard specifications for Internet services and raise the efficiency of the digital infrastructure within hotel establishments, in a way that enhances the level of guest satisfaction and raises the competitiveness of the Egyptian destination globally.

He added that these efforts come within the framework of the Ministry’s vision to enable digital transformation. Within the tourism sector, creating an advanced service environment that relies on a strong and stable communications infrastructure that meets tourists’ expectations and supports the state’s plans to improve the level of the tourism experience.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Shaaban, Assistant Minister for Digital Services and Chairman of the committee formed to follow up on the implementation of the project, explained that the project to raise the efficiency of infrastructure and communications services in hotels and tourist villages, which began work in 2021, is being implemented in three stages according to a specific geographical distribution, which includes  The first stage includes the governorates of Cairo, Giza, and the city of Sharm El-Sheikh, and the second stage includes the governorates of the Red Sea, Luxor, Aswan, and Alexandria, in addition to the cities of Dahab, Taba, and Nuweiba. The third stage includes the rest of the governorates of the Republic.

He pointed out that the relevant technical committees, during visits, conduct technical measurements of Internet speeds and signal strength, and ensure that internal networks conform to standard specifications, as well as following up on the executive position for laying fiber-optic cables and the hotels’ reliance on them to ensure quality and stability. Service. Meetings are also held with information technology managers in hotel establishments to discuss the technical challenges and work to solve them in coordination with the competent authorities.

He stressed that the digital infrastructure within hotels and tourist villages has witnessed a remarkable development during the recent period, which has been reflected positively on the level of guest satisfaction and the improvement of their experience within Egyptian tourist destinations, according to field follow-up indicators and reports of the competent authorities.

During the tours, the committees stressed to the human resources and training managers of hotel establishments and tourist resorts the importance of disseminating workers’ guidance. By registering on the Tourism and Antiquities Training Platform (Egtap) to obtain free training courses in the field of hospitality, this is within the framework of the Ministry’s keenness to raise the efficiency of workers and develop their skills in accordance with the requirements of developing tourism services.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities will continue to implement these tours on an expanded basis during the coming period, in support of the state’s efforts to improve the quality of services within tourist facilities and provide an advanced digital environment befitting the status of the Egyptian destination, and supporting its competitiveness on the international tourism map.
