Arab Cup.. Iraq qualifies for the quarter-finals
The Iraqi team achieved a valuable victory over the Sudanese team with two unanswered goals, at the fatal time of the match that was heading towards a goalless draw, during the confrontation that was held this evening, Saturday, at Stadium 974 in Doha, within the second round of the fourth group competitions in the Arab Cup.
Despite the Sudanese team’s advantage in the first half, the Iraqi team turned the tide of the match in its favor in the last minutes of the second half, thanks to the successful substitutions and tactical interventions of Australian coach Graham Arnold. Substitutes Muhannad Ali and Amjad Atwan scored the winning goals in the 80th and 84th minutes, respectively.
The Iraqi team topped the fourth group standings with six points, becoming the first to qualify for the quarter-finals, while the Algerian team came second with four points, and Sudan third with two points, while Bahrain came in last place with no score.
The Algerian national team, the holder of the title of the last edition, achieved a major victory over its Bahraini counterpart, five goals to one, in the match that brought them together today, Saturday, at Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, in the second round.
The Algerian team appeared in a distinctive manner, presenting a strong performance characterized by excitement and an abundance of goals. On the other hand, the Bahraini defense collapsed in the face of the Greens’ intense offensive pressure.
The Algerian team raised its score to four points, enhancing its chances of qualifying for the next round, while the Bahraini team remained without points after two matches, officially bidding farewell to the competition, although it has a match remaining against Sudan next Tuesday for the third round.
The match saw two goals canceled by video technology. The first for Bahrain was scored by Abdullah Al-Khalasi in the eighth minute due to offside, and the second for Algeria was scored by Ben Dabke in the 55th minute due to a violation.
