المملكة: Prince Turki Al-Faisal inaugurates the third edition of the Arab Meroitic Days

His Royal Highness opened Prince Turki Al-Faisal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, yesterday, Sunday, the third edition of "The days of the Arabic Meroitic" Organized by the Center and lasting for two days.
This edition came as an extension of a cognitive path that seeks to rebuild the Arab narrative within a critical horizon that restores the elements of strength in Arab and Islamic culture, and focuses on the frameworks that shaped the Arab cultural and civilizational self, and on the frameworks that shape the Arab person’s knowledge of himself, his history, and his society, and links this path to the Center’s research projects in heritage, thought, and the arts.

The Birth of the Arab Aesthetic Sense

The Emir affirmed that Turki Al-Faisal, in his opening speech, said that the Arab aesthetic sense was born from “the silence of the Arabian desert, where the clarity of the horizon is a balance for the eye.”"And the first experience of beauty emerged from that early moment that was embodied in me "A voice is recited, a word is written, and a direction by which directions are determined"

He explained that this transformation began with the revelation of the Holy Qur’an, when “the Arabs were seized by the magic of its explanation.”"And with the increasing status of writing, “Arabic calligraphy turned into a vessel for the words of Truth – the Almighty – so the journey of Arab-Islamic art began in a calm, profound way.”"From these beginnings, “the Ottoman Qur’ans appeared in early civil scripts, announcing the birth of the craft of the noble Qur’ans, or the birth of Arab-Islamic art.”"Writing, geometry and decoration intertwined as tools revealing the depth of the Arab aesthetic experience.

The openness of art to the world

Prince Turki Al-Faisal pointed out that this art – in its depth – was not isolation from the world, but rather opened up to the influence of the Persians, Romans, Byzantines and Indians, and then reshaped their influences within a unifying system that neither dissolves nor excludes difference, and this system extended to include architecture and manuscripts. And textiles, where there are many artistic dialects, but they are united in one spiritual vision.

Noted by Dr. Mohamed Ould Omar, Director General of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization, in his speech, praised the position that the King Faisal Center occupies as a beacon for scientific research in the Arab world, stressing that the holding of days "Arabic Meroitic" It is consistent with the organization’s vision of preserving Arab heritage and strengthening its presence in modern consciousness, and that the project constitutes a pivotal step in rebuilding Arab irrigation on critical foundations that restore the cultural presence of Arabs throughout their scientific and intellectual history, and link creativity, language, identity, and paths of modernization.

The third edition comes as an extension of the first edition of "Arabic Meroitic" Which was held in Shaaban 1444 AH "February 2023 AD"It focused on criticizing classical Meroism and clarifying the journey of the transmission of sciences from and to the Arabs, stressing that restoring the civilizational role begins with the nation’s awareness of its history and itself, as well as the second edition, which was held in Shawwal 1445 AH.
