Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed inaugurates the Al Ghadeer Emirati Crafts Pavilion at the Liwa International Festival

ABU DHABI, 16 December, 2017 (WAM) – Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, in Khannour Fort in the city of Liwa in the Al Dhafra Region, opened the pavilion of the Al Ghadeer Emirati Crafts Project, affiliated with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, as part of the activities of the 2026 Liwa International Festival “Liwa 2026”, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi.
The opening was attended by His Excellency Nasser Mohammed Al Mansouri, Undersecretary of the Court of the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, His Excellency Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, Secretary General of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, His Excellency Saleh Mohammed Al Jaziri, Director General of Tourism at the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and a number of senior officials.
Al Ghadeer Project’s participation in the festival comes through a cultural experience that reflects the Emirati national identity and contributes to reviving the cultural heritage within a family atmosphere that embodies the values of authentic Emirati hospitality.
Khannour Castle is one of the prominent historical landmarks in the Al Dhafra region. Its construction dates back to the nineteenth century, and it was later restored while preserving its architectural character and traditional building materials, to remain a witness to the region’s history and cultural memory.
Within the framework of the Liwa International Festival 2026, the Al Ghadeer project will include a pavilion in the castle that provides a lively space that displays Emirati products to a number of Emirati entrepreneurs and craftsmen, with the aim of enhancing the sustainability of traditional crafts, and linking heritage with a modern spirit that expresses the country’s present and future.
His Excellency Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei said: The Al Ghadeer Emirati Crafts Project aims to preserve the Emirati cultural heritage as one of the pillars of national identity, by supporting Emirati craftsmen, empowering them economically, and providing them with the opportunity to display and market their craft products in contemporary methods that preserve their authenticity. The project seeks to transfer craft skills to new generations, and to enhance community awareness of the importance of traditional industries and their role in supporting the national economy.
The Al Ghadeer project provides an exceptional experience in Khannour Castle, combining the authenticity of Emirati heritage and the spirit of modern products, in an atmosphere that emulates history and place, and highlights the creativity of Emirati entrepreneurs, which contributes to enhancing the presence of Emirati crafts and consolidating national identity.
