Increase the prize money for the 2026 World Cup by 50%

The prize money for next year’s World Cup will be 50 percent higher than the previous edition, after the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) agreed today to provide a record financial contribution to the tournament worth $727 million.
The largest share of FIFA’s financing package for the North American edition – $655 million – will be payments based on the performance of the 48 participating countries, with the champion receiving $50 million and the runner-up receiving $33 million.
“The 2026 World Cup will also be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in a statement.
The 16 teams that fail to advance to the group stage will receive $9 million, and in addition, each qualifying team is entitled to $1.5 million to cover preparation costs.
The FIFA Council also confirmed that the 2028 Women’s Club World Cup will be held from January 5 to January 30.
