Italian League: Napoli jumps to second place

Napoli jumped to second place temporarily after defeating its host Lazio 2-0, today, Sunday, in the 18th stage of the Italian Football League, before Inter Milan’s meeting with Bologna at the end of the evening.
The southern team was able to break its contract with Lazio after failing to win against it in the last six matches in various competitions, thanks to two goals scored by Leonardo Spinazzola (13) and the Kosovar Amir Rahmani (32).
The last victory before this confrontation dates back to September 3, 2022, also at Lazio, 2-1, in the season in which Napoli ended as league champion and Lazio as runner-up.
Napoli raised its score to 37 points in second place, one point behind Milan, which won Friday over Cagliari, and one point ahead of Inter Milan.
The advanced Spinazzola defender, unmarked, took advantage of a cross from Matteo Politano and followed it “on the fly” past goalkeeper Ivan Prudeville (13).
Politano also made the second goal, this time from a free kick he played towards the penalty area, and Rahmani followed it up with a header into the goal (32).
Napoli prevailed in most of the match. Rather, Lazio, which tied in the last two matches, seemed weak at home and among its fans, as it failed to shoot at Napoli’s goal throughout the ninety minutes, knowing that it completed the last nine minutes of normal time with ten players after the Dutch striker, Taslin Nusslin, was sent off with a second yellow card (81).
A scuffle occurred between Lazio’s Montenegrin defender Adam Marucic and Napoli’s substitute defender Pascal, leading to both being expelled (88).
With this sixth loss in the league, Lazio’s balance froze at 24 points in ninth place.
