Manchester City signs ‘exceptional’ winger Simeho from Bournemouth

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola said that the club has been monitoring Antoine Simenew for years, after the competing team in the English Premier League signed the Ghanaian international winger from Bournemouth today.
Simeño, who will be part of City’s squad when coach Guardiola’s team hosts Exeter City, competing in the third division, in the third round of the FA Cup, is the third best scorer in the English Premier League this season, as part of City’s efforts to strengthen its efforts to compete for the title.
The 26-year-old player, who has confounded rival defenses by scoring 10 goals and providing three assists this season, joined City after the club paid, according to media reports, the release clause of 65 million pounds ($87.19 million), amid interest from other clubs in the English Premier League to sign the player.
Guardiola continued, “City has been following Simeño for a few years. We have followed him for a long time, and given our current situation with the wings, we have three main players, namely Oscar (Pope), Savinho and Jeremy (Duku), so we needed to strengthen the team for the coming years, and that is why the club took the initiative to sign him at the ideal age, so the coming years will be the best for him.” The versatile winger joins City, who trail leaders Arsenal by six points in the league after 21 rounds.
“I watched City over the past decade under the leadership of Pep Guardiola, and they were the dominant team in the English Premier League, in addition to achieving amazing achievements in the Champions League, the FA Cup and the (English) League Cup,” Simeño said in a statement.
“The club has set the highest standards, boasts world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest coaches of all time, Pep.”
He continued, “I have a lot of room for development, so being at this club, at this stage of my career, is ideal for me. It is a real honor to be here. My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that.”
The Ghanaian international is in great shape this season after joining Bournemouth in 2023, after scoring 21 goals with Bristol City in the English second division.
He began the current season of the English Premier League by scoring a brace against defending champion Liverpool, and maintained this momentum throughout the season, and his last goal with Bournemouth was the winning goal in stoppage time during the exciting 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
Hugo Viana, City’s director of football, said: “Antoine is a great addition to the club. He made clear to us from the beginning his desire to join City.”
He added, “His enthusiasm for this club was evident throughout the negotiations. He has wonderful feet, speed and strength, and has the ability to influence the course of matches, and most importantly, he has a lot of room for development and growth.”
He continued, “I am excited to see the player Antoine will become in the coming weeks, months and years.”
Simeño will now join City’s already strong attack, which includes league top scorer Erling Haaland (20 goals), Phil Foden, Rayyan Chergui, and Doku.
