UN officials reinforce support for Syrians returning to their homes

Regional Directors of UNHCR, the World Food Program and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) met during the tour with representatives of governments, donors and families to assess needs, address gaps and identify areas for expanding support in a more coordinated and effective manner.

Officials said improving conditions inside Syria is key to ensuring voluntary, safe and dignified returns, while sustained support in host countries helps families make informed decisions about their future.

It is noteworthy that about 3 million Syrian refugees inside and outside Syria were able to return to their homes after more than a decade of displacement. About 4.5 million Syrians still live in neighboring countries.
