Nigeria wins the African Cup bronze at the expense of Egypt
Nigeria achieved third place in the African Cup of Nations after beating Egypt 4-2 on penalties after captain Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush missed their kicks today, Saturday.
Although goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert blocked the first kick from Fisayo Dele Bashiro, a Nigerian player, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili blocked both kicks from Salah and Marmoush to secure the bronze medal for his team.
The match began with mutual control, and Salah missed an opportunity from close range after a cross pass from Mohamed Hani.
Akor Adams scored a goal that was not counted due to a violation at the beginning of the attack on behalf of Hamdi Fathi, the Egypt player.
Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian player, thought he had given his team the lead at the beginning of the second half, but the goal was not counted due to offside.
Nigeria achieved third place for the ninth time in its history in the tournament.
