المملكة: KAUST establishes "Quantitative manufacturing facility" To develop quantum devices in the Kingdom

Launched King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Program "KAUST Quantum Foundry" Specialized in quantum manufacturing, it aims to raise the Kingdom’s readiness in manufacturing commercial and reproducible quantum devices.
The program also provides support for the manufacture of prototype devices and the development of quantum processes by facilitating organized and shared access to specialized KAUST pure chambers, which enhances cooperation between partners from the industrial and academic sectors in the field of emerging quantum technologies.
Specific processes
Traditionally, quantum devices are usually manufactured through custom and laboratory-specific processes that are difficult to replicate or expand outside of research groups.
Building on the university’s existing cleanroom infrastructure and the expertise of its core laboratories, the KAUST Quantum Fabrication Facility offers a dedicated operating model for quantum technologies that sets it apart from general nanofabrication facilities.
This model focuses on standardizing processes and developing quantum process design kits (PDKs), which are tools that enable researchers to design and fabricate devices using regular, defined processes.
An incremental initiative
The launch of the Quantum Fabrication Facility will be in KAUST is an incremental initiative, as its capabilities will be expanded over time based on evolving processes, expertise, and infrastructure.
As it matures, it will aim to foster collaboration between multiple quantum platforms, such as superconducting, photonic, and hybrid platforms. Furthermore, the facility will provide clear pathways for technology transfer and early commercialization within the KAUST innovation ecosystem, including Emerging Technologies.
Common Framework
The Quantum Fabrication Facility provides a common framework for applying quantum technologies in support of KAUST’s strategic missions, from energy development and materials discovery, to enabling ultra-sensitive sensing technologies in the areas of food, water, health, and Red Sea research.
Working hand in hand with artificial intelligence, quantum computing, simulation, and hardware development capabilities contribute to tackling complex scientific challenges beyond the capabilities of traditional methods, helping to translate strategic priorities into long-term research impact.
