Al Ain are in negotiations to renew the contract of historic top scorer Lapa

Al Ain Football Club Company has entered into negotiations with the team’s top scorer, Togolese international Laba Kodjo, to renew his contract, which expires next June, in an attempt to avoid pressure from a number of local and Saudi clubs seeking to sign him.
The Africa Top Sport website stated, “With six months remaining until the end of his contract, which expires in June 2026, Togolese international striker Laba Kodjo has become the subject of interest from a number of clubs.”
The report added: “After becoming a living legend at Al Ain Football Club by breaking Ghanaian Asamoah Gyan’s record in terms of number of goals, the Togolese player has received serious attention from several Gulf clubs, attracted by his great effectiveness in front of goal and his experience at the highest levels.”
He continued: “Among the most prominent clubs closely monitoring the status of his contract is Sharjah Club, which hopes to exploit the player’s future status as a free transfer to strengthen its offensive lines.”
The report indicated that “despite these strong performances, the player’s priority may remain stability, as reports indicate that negotiations are already underway with Al Ain club management to extend his contract for an additional year, and it appears that Al Ain is not ready to give up its historic top scorer.”
Laba Kodjo had renewed his contract with Al Ain Club in 2023 for a period of three years, ending in the summer of this year, and the player continues to perform at remarkable levels during the current season, after he became Al-Zaeem’s all-time top scorer, surpassing Ahmed Abdullah, the Al-Ain Ghazal. His brace against Al-Wahda during the last round raised him to 133 goals, making him equal to Al-Shaab Club legend Adnan Taliani in fifth place on the list of all-time top scorers in the league competition.
. The Togolese star is receiving interest from Gulf and Emirati clubs, including Sharjah.
