"Federal Nuclear Regulation" Organizes the first oversight forum in the UAE

ABU DHABI, 30 JANUARY / WAM / The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation organized the first regulatory forum in the UAE, bringing together senior officials from the federal and local regulatory authorities to enhance cooperation, raise the efficiency of regulatory work, and support the effective implementation of regulations and laws throughout the country.

The forum, which was held in Abu Dhabi yesterday, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah Nasser Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, reflects the UAE government’s commitment to enhancing cooperation between regulatory authorities in light of an interconnected regulatory environment, and provides a platform for dialogue that enables authorities to exchange best practices, share knowledge and experiences, and deal with common challenges related to oversight, emerging technologies, and others.

The forum is also in line with national initiatives that enhance coordination and innovation in government work, including the government accelerators and the regulatory laboratory, which support policy development, regulatory flexibility, and cooperation between different agencies.

Christer Viktorsson, Director General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, said that close cooperation and continuous dialogue between regulatory authorities is crucial to facing common challenges, strengthening regulatory frameworks, ensuring the effective application of laws and regulations, and affirms the collective responsibility in protecting society, enabling innovation, and adhering to international regulatory standards.

He pointed out that the success of the UAE’s nuclear program, and the role of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation as an independent regulatory body, reflect sustainable cooperation between government agencies, which confirms the importance of coordination and shared responsibility in achieving national achievements.

The forum included extensive discussions between the participating regulatory authorities on best practices, main challenges, and coordination opportunities, with the aim of identifying practical solutions that support the authorities in performing their tasks and advancing national priorities.

The forum concluded with a set of joint outcomes aimed at enhancing coordination and integration between regulatory authorities, enhancing the reputation of entities at the national and international levels, accelerating initiatives to eliminate bureaucracy and digital integration, and encouraging the responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
