Huge turnout to participate in the Dubai Fishing Championship

The Dubai International Marine Sports Club announced that it has received applications to participate in the first round of the Dubai Fishing Championship, amid a great demand to compete in the largest event specializing in fishing for the kingfish and kingfish categories, which will be held during the period from 5 to 8 February at the club’s headquarters in Dubai Harbour.

The Department of Sports Affairs at the Dubai International Marine Sports Club approved all the instructions for the competition, where financial prizes amounting to 195,000 dirhams were set, with 140,000 dirhams presented to the first ten place holders in the kingfish category, and 30,000 dirhams to the first three place holders in the kingfish category. In addition to the financial prizes offered by the club, an amount of 25,000 dirhams for the kingfish season champion presented by Dalma Marine, while Sayyaf Marine provides fishing rods. For the first three places in the two categories, and in-kind discounts for the rest of the winners.

The tournament begins on Thursday, February 5, when the password is announced, and continues daily from two in the afternoon until eight in the evening, except for the closing day on Sunday, February 8, when competitions are held from 9 am to 2:30 p.m., followed by the coronation ceremony.

Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Sports Club, confirmed that this competition comes out of the club’s keenness and constant contributions to community activities, as this competition brings together fishing enthusiasts from citizens, residents and visitors to the country, to compete in a social entertainment atmosphere while adhering to the laws in force in the country, as any participant is required to use a marine vehicle that holds a valid license and contains all safety equipment, and adhere to the places designated for fishing, and the number of participants is not less than two people in each boat.

Al Marri explained that it is permitted to catch fish by line or drag only, using hooks, live bait, or artificial bait, and it is not permitted to use nets, cages, or anything else, in order to preserve the marine environment of the United Arab Emirates.

According to the tournament rules, the winner is the fish with the largest weight, and in the event of equal weights, the length of the fish is taken into account. In the event of equality in all of the above, the participant who brought his catch first is the winner, with a basic clause about documenting the catch on video with special and clear instructions, with full supervision by the event organizing committee.
