ABU DHABI, 3 February, 2017 (WAM) – Tariq Mutaira, Director General of the Welfare Foundation, one of the organizations that won the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity, confirmed that this honor represents international recognition of the Foundation’s journey extending for more than four decades in humanitarian and development work, and reflects the universal humanitarian values from which the award stems in promoting brotherhood, solidarity, and service to humanity.
He said, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that the Foundation is proud to be nominated and win the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, considering this recognition as recognition of the excellence of a Palestinian institution that has dedicated its efforts for more than 43 years to serving the Palestinian people, as it has contributed to improving the lives of more than a million Palestinians in various areas of the Palestinian presence, including the Palestinian camps in Lebanon.
He explained that this honor reflects the essence of the humanitarian work that the Foundation has pursued since its founding, which is based on moral responsibility and creative human solidarity, which are values that intersect with the goals of the Zayed Prize for Human Fraternity and its universal principles.
He pointed out that this achievement constitutes a strong motivation to continue work and commitment to the Foundation’s mission of providing humanitarian and development services, especially to the most affected groups in Palestine, especially those affected by the difficult conditions in the Gaza Strip.
He explained that the Welfare Foundation leads one of the largest orphan care projects in the region, as it sponsors more than 20,000 orphans, and accompanies them with care and support for a period of up to 18 years, in addition to supporting them in completing their university education, in addition to rehabilitation and care programs for amputees affected by wars, as part of a long-term commitment towards these groups.
The Director General of the Welfare Foundation stressed that this honor represents an incentive to strengthen existing humanitarian programs and expand their impact in the coming years, stressing that translating the values of solidarity and brotherhood can only be achieved through a tangible positive impact on people’s lives, by instilling hope and building a decent life that allows a person to achieve his full potential and capabilities.
