Al Wahda maintains fourth place in the AFC Elite Champions League

Al-Wahda maintained its position in fourth place in the elite AFC Champions League, after drawing with Al-Ahly Saudi Arabia without goals, today, Monday, in the seventh round of league stage matches, in the match that brought together the two teams at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, raising “Al-Anabi” its score to 14 points, which is the same score reached by its competitor.

The first half witnessed great competition and a clear exchange of opportunities, with Al-Ahly having a relative advantage in possession and creating danger, in exchange for organized attempts by Al-Wahda to respond and rely on quick transitions.

The first sign of danger came from Al-Ahly Jeddah after Riyad Mahrez played a perfect cross inside the penalty area, which reached Ivorian Franck Kesé, who played it dangerously and passed in front of the goal (8).

Al-Wahda responded in the 17th minute with a strong attempt, when Dusan Tadic shot a powerful ball from outside the penalty area, but it went over the crossbar, while in the 22nd minute, Al-Ahly continued its threat through Riyad Mahrez, who fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but Al-Wahda goalkeeper Zayed Al-Hammadi shone and blocked the ball brilliantly, preserving his team’s balance in one of the most dangerous opportunities of the half.

In the 31st minute, Al-Ahly came close again to scoring after a shot from Ivan Toni passed near the post, before turning into a corner kick, while Ibrahima Diarra made a remarkable individual effort, when he dribbled more than one player before shooting a powerful ball, which Al-Ahly goalkeeper Edouard Mendy firmly blocked in the 33rd minute.

The second half witnessed a decline in performance from both teams, after many errors and incorrect passes, as the players in both teams did not pose any threat to the goal in the first 25 minutes of the half.

On the other hand, Al-Ahly almost scored the first goal from a counterattack that reached Ivan Tony, who was alone in the goal and shot the ball, but goalkeeper Zayed Al-Hammadi shone and blocked the ball (83), and Al-Wahda maintained its cohesion in the last minutes, after the opponent pressed to score the winning goal, but the goalkeeper and the defense excelled in repelling all attacks, so the match ended in a draw.
