Al-Wasl wastes its lead twice and loses to Al-Zawraa in “Asian Champions 2”

Al-Wasl lost to Al-Zawraa of Iraq by three goals to two, in the first leg of the round of 16 of the AFC Champions League 2 at Al-Zawraa Stadium in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, so that deciding the identity of the team qualifying for the quarter-finals will be postponed when the two teams meet again in the return match next Tuesday in Zabeel.

Al-Wasl started the match at a fast pace, as they imposed their advantage early, and Miguel Borja scored the first goal following an organized attack that started from Jimenez and passed through Ali Saleh, who provided a decisive pass that put Borja in an ideal position inside the penalty area, and the Colombian striker shot the ball into the goal (5).

On the other hand, the turning point came in the 27th minute when the referee showed the red card to Al-Wasl player Sufyan Bouftini after a strong intervention against Al-Zawraa player Amer Jamous.

Mohamed Al-Wali excelled by blocking a strong ball from Hassan Abdel Karim (29), while “Al-Ashraf” received a painful blow in the 41st minute, as Al-Wali suffered an injury that forced him to leave the field, and Khaled Al-Sanani participated as his replacement, and Amer Jamous scored the equalizer for the home team in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

The second half also witnessed a strong start from Al-Wasl, after Miguel Borja added the second goal from a strong ball shot by Siaka and it bounced off the Al-Zawraa goalkeeper, and Borja completed it in the goal (65). The Iraqi team responded with an equalizer through Riascus, who was alone with goalkeeper Khaled Al-Sanani and shot the ball into the goal (68), and the same player added the third goal (76), so the match ended with Al-Zawraa winning.
