A rare event: two champions in the Jebel Ali Mile horse race

Today, Sunday, Jebel Ali Racecourse witnessed an unusual event in horse racing, as the two horses “Masmak”, with the logo of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and “David of Ethnes”, owned by the “Wathnan Racing” team, were crowned, sharing the title of the “Jebel Ali Mile”, which was held in the fifth and main round of the tenth ceremony of the “yellow” track racing season.
The coronation of “Masmak”, which is trained by Salem Bin Ghadeer and led by jockey Bernardo Pinheiro, and “David of Ethnes”, under the supervision of coach Hamad Al-Juhani and led by jockey James Doyle, came after a strong competition on the course of the race, which extended for a distance of 1,600 sandy meters, and the financial prizes amounted to 700 thousand dirhams.
The two champions achieved victory by crossing the finish line together in the same time, one minute, 37 seconds and 37 hundredths of a second, with a difference of 0.17 lengths from their closest competitor, the horse “Mount Cosscor”, under the supervision of trainers Antonio Sintra and Julio Olascuaga, and under the leadership of the jockey Silvestre de Sousa.
The ceremony also included two main tournaments, the prizes for each of which amounted to 500 thousand dirhams. The first was held in the fourth half, and witnessed the crowning of the horse “Pontus”, owned by “Eva Neslannikova” and under the supervision of coach Miroslav Neslank, with the title of the “Jebel Ali Sprint” championship, which extended for a distance of 1000 meters of sand, after “Pontus” crossed the race course in a time of 58 seconds and 93 hundredths of a second, a difference of 2.64 lengths from the second place horse “Apollo One”, under the supervision of coaches Peter Charalambous and James Clutterback, led by jockey Daniel Tudhope.
In the third major tournament, the horse “Killer Collect” gave its owners Michael Hillary, Burke and Nigar, and the trainer Bobat Simar, the title of the “Jebel Ali Stakes” championship, which took place in the sixth and final round, after the jockey Tag O’Shea led him to cover the course of the race, which extended for a distance of 1950 sand meters, in first place with a time of one minute, 57 seconds and 61 part of a second, 0.14 lengths behind the second-placed horse. “Arlan”, under the supervision of trainer Doug Watson and led by jockey Patrick Dubas.
In the rest of the results, the horse “Malzoum”, owned by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and under the supervision of coach Michael Costa and led by jockey Ray Dawson, snatched the title of the first half, winning the “ESS Stakes” championship, which took place over a distance of 1,200 meters of sand, with prizes amounting to 72 thousand dirhams.
The filly “The Essential”, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, under the supervision of Salem bin Ghadeer and led by jockey Jose Santiago, also clinched the title of the second half, winning the “Nayfat Stakes” championship, which took place over a distance of 1,400 meters of sand, with prizes amounting to 120 thousand dirhams.
As for the third round, “Al-Nawaif Stakes”, which extended over a distance of 1,400 sandy meters with prizes amounting to 120,000 dirhams, the title went to the horse “Urdib”, owned by the “Ekuri Amazing” team, under the supervision of coach Bobat Simar and led by jockey Andrew Slattery.
