The match between Al-Ahly of Egypt and its guest, the Royal Moroccan Army, witnessed riots inside the stadium and on the stands, despite the two teams drawing without goals, on Sunday, at Cairo Stadium, and qualifying together for the second round of the African Football Champions League.
The incident began with clashes between the players of the two teams following mutual arguments, which required the intervention of the match referee to contain the situation, amid a state of tension in the stands between the fans of the two clubs, interspersed with violence, punches, and an off-script atmosphere on both sides.

Media accounts varied in covering the events, as Egyptian newspapers condemned what they described as the actions of the Royal Army players and fans, and Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper reported that some Moroccan team fans attempted to storm the field following the clash between the players. Meanwhile, Al-Watan newspaper reported that there were provocative attempts by the Royal Army players towards Al-Ahly fans at the end of the first half, which angered the fans, confirming that Walid Salah El-Din, Al-Ahly’s director of football, intervened to calm the situation.
On the other hand, Moroccan media reported a different story, as the “Al-Botola” website reported that Al-Ahly fans attacked the Royal Army players as they headed to the locker rooms between halftime.

The “Lee 360 Sport” website also published a video of the events, accompanied by a comment indicating that clashes and throwing of water bottles occurred between fans of the two teams inside the stadium.
For its part, the management of the Royal Army Club denounced what it considered “unsportsmanlike behavior” by some Al-Ahly fans, which, according to the club’s statement, consisted of throwing water bottles, which constituted a direct threat to the safety of the players and members of the technical staff.
The Moroccan club confirmed that it had initiated official procedures to address the Confederation of African Football (CAF), demanding the implementation of the penalties stipulated in the regulations, in order to preserve the principles of sportsmanship and ensure the safety of all parties.
