The Head of State attends the first meeting that brings together a number of personalities who witnessed the ceremony of raising the Union flag with the founding father, Sheikh Zayed
Abu Dhabi, February 26 / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” today attended the first meeting since the establishment of the Union, bringing together a number of personalities who witnessed, along with the founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his fellow rulers, “may God have mercy on them,” the ceremony of raising the UAE flag for the first time at the moment of the establishment of the Union.
His Highness the President also viewed a collection of rare photos that include more than 60 never-before-seen photos that document historical scenes on the day the union was announced and the flag of the United Arab Emirates was raised for the first time on December 2, 1971, at the Union House in Dubai.
The collection includes an original copy of a photo signed by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, “may God rest his soul,” along with “negatives,” historical photos of the federation.
His Highness expressed his happiness at viewing these photos and the historical symbolic value they represent, including documentation of defining moments in the nation’s history. His Highness recalled the role of the late founding father Sheikh Zayed and his fellow rulers, “may God have mercy on them,” in realizing the dream of unity and building the edifice of the union.
In an initiative of appreciation, His Highness the President of the State hosted, at the Iftar banquet at Al Bahr Palace in Abu Dhabi, a number of personalities who witnessed the ceremony of raising the UAE flag for the first time by the founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and who expressed their pride in having witnessed the most important moments in the history of the UAE and its unity. His Highness listened to them about their feelings in those moments in which the fulfillment of the dream of union was announced and what they remember from that day.
His Highness exchanged cordial conversations with them and their families on the occasion of the blessed month of Ramadan, praying to God Almighty to make it a month of goodness and blessings for the UAE and its people.
