"Russian lead" For judo competitions in the Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ramadan Championship "Al Wathba 2026"

Abu Dhabi, February 27 / WAM / The judo competitions within the Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Ramadan Championship – Al Wathba 2026 concluded yesterday, with Russian players topping the men’s competition with 5 gold medals, while Tunisia came in runner-up with a gold, two silver and a bronze, and Egypt was third with a gold, a silver and a bronze.

The tournament will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chief of the Presidential Council, at the headquarters of the Sheikh Zayed Festival in Al Wathba, and will continue until next March 17, with the participation of more than 5,000 male and female athletes in 16 competitions.

The judo competitions witnessed strong levels, as Estonia achieved a gold, Syria a silver and two bronze, and Brazil, Palestine and Portugal achieved a silver each, in addition to 3 bronze for UAE players, and another for Morocco.

The rest of the centers were distributed among a number of countries, including Pakistan, Algeria, Canada, France, Kyrgyzstan, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Sudan and Uzbekistan.

His Excellency Mohammed bin Thaloub Al Darei, President of the Emirates Judo Federation, confirmed that the Ramadan Championship achieved great success and wide participation by holding 16 competitions and the participation of more than 5,000 male and female athletes, indicating the keenness to organize judo events within the championship by holding the strongest competitions with multinational participation, whether for men or at the junior level, with the aim of motivating the rising generation to practice sports.

He expressed his aspiration to add competitions to the sports season calendar, in a way that enhances efforts to develop the sport of judo, by increasing the number of competitions, attracting the strongest athletes to raise levels and achieve strategic goals, and increase its spread in society, especially since the current championship provides an important platform for presenting the sport of judo to the fans at the event site or through the large media coverage it receives.

The tournament competitions will continue tomorrow, with padel events starting and continuing until March 15. Chess competitions will also be held over two days with large participation from various nationalities, in addition to the continuation of the three-way basketball events that started today, Friday, and will continue until March 10. Football competitions will also be held daily.

The organizing committee announced that applications to participate in the running race scheduled for the day after tomorrow, Sunday, will continue to be received. It is considered the largest of its kind for the community in the Al Wathba area, for a distance of 5 km, as it begins and concludes at the Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival, with open participation for all age groups and nationalities.
