At least 30 thousand displaced people in Lebanon following Israeli raids

The United Nations announced on Tuesday that at least 30,000 people were displaced in Lebanon as a result of Israeli bombing and raids on various areas, especially in the south of the country and the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Babar Baloch, spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, said in a press conference in Geneva, “Large displacement operations were reported in several parts of southern Lebanon, and in the Bekaa region and the southern suburbs of Beirut, after Israel issued evacuation warnings to residents of more than 53 Lebanese villages and carried out intense air strikes” in the aforementioned areas.

He added, “As of yesterday (Monday), estimates indicate that at least about 30,000 people were housed and registered in collective shelters. A much larger number slept in their cars on the sides of the roads.”

For his part, the Regional Director of the United Nations World Food Program, Samer Abdel Jaber, said in an interview with reporters in Cairo that the number of displaced people will increase significantly.
Israel has launched an intensive bombing campaign on Lebanon since Monday, announcing the targeting of Hezbollah in response to strikes it carried out on Israeli territory.
The Israeli raids resulted in the deaths of 52 people, according to an official tally issued on Monday.
