ABU DHABI, 12 March / WAM / The Shamma Bint Mohammed Council for Thought and Knowledge held at the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Palace in Abu Dhabi a dialogue symposium entitled “The Family and Community Stability in Moments of Challenge… Creating Reassurance within the Home” in the presence of Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan Cultural and Educational Institutions, and an elite group of women from society, along with a number of women interested in family issues. Intellectual and national.

Sheikha Dr. Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan stressed, during her main intervention, that in times of stability, countries devote themselves to building their economies and institutions and consolidating the pillars of progress and prosperity, and in moments of challenge, the true strength of society appears, and it is a strength that does not start from the major institutions as much as it begins from the smallest unit in its structure, which is the family.

She said that the family is the first factory of reassurance, and the last fortress that protects children psychologically and intellectually when the region is going through delicate circumstances or exceptional events, stressing that the role of the family in such moments goes beyond providing living needs to performing a deeper responsibility related to psychological and intellectual protection, and building balanced awareness among children.

A set of pivotal questions were raised that opened the door to discussion among the attendees, the most important of which is what is the true role of the family in protecting children psychologically and intellectually in times of challenges?

She explained that true reassurance is not built on ignoring or withholding, but rather on conscious understanding and simple explanations appropriate to the children’s ages, stressing that educating the child about what is going on around him in calm and confident language contributes to transforming disturbing news into lessons in steadfastness, belonging, and trust in the nation and its leadership.

She pointed out that the mother plays a pivotal role in maintaining the balance of the home and creating internal calm, through good management of the flow of information to the family, maintaining a stable daily routine, and establishing aspects of reassurance in the details of daily life, in addition to being the first model through which feelings of calm or anxiety are transmitted to the children.

The symposium witnessed a remarkable interaction from the attendees, who provided rich interventions that reflected a deep awareness of the importance of the family in protecting the societal fabric and stressed that Emirati women were and continue to be an integral partner in promoting societal stability through their educational, cultural and humanitarian role inside and outside the family.

In this context, Dr. Lulwah Al Marzouqi stated that many Emirati writers presented stories for children that help them understand what is going on around them in an interesting style and drawings, while Dr. Fatima Al Dhaheri pointed out that honesty and clarity with the elderly and children alike is the best method in dealing with crises, because it establishes trust and reassurance within the family.

In turn, Maysaa Al Nowais confirmed that children have a great deal of intelligence and awareness, and are only convinced by what they see as the truth. Therefore, honesty with them and calm dialogue are among the most important means of building their awareness and enhancing their sense of security.
