Cooperation between "Abu Dhabi Marine" and"Minx" To develop mining techniques in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

ABU DHABI, 8 April / WAM / The Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, affiliated with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, signed an agreement for research, development and operation with the “MINX” company, which specializes in mining and mineral processing technologies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The agreement includes the design, development and operation of an advanced machine enhanced with artificial intelligence for ore sorting, designed to raise the quality of low-concentration mineral materials and transform them into products ready for export.
Under the agreement, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy will develop and operate a primary metal processing unit enhanced with artificial intelligence, which includes machine learning models owned exclusively by the academy in addition to specialized supporting devices.
The unit will be adopted into the mineral processing workflow within MINEX operations sites, with the aim of improving recovery rates, enhancing operational efficiency, and realizing value from mineral materials that were not previously economically viable.
This collaboration brings together Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy’s capabilities in the fields of applied research and artificial intelligence, with MINX’s extensive operational presence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Dr. Yasser Al Wahidi, President of Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, said: “Utilizing applied research and artificial intelligence within actual operational environments enables innovation to achieve a tangible industrial impact. This cooperation embodies ways of employing advanced engineering and artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, performance and sustainability in metal processing operations, which reflects the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s commitment to technological leadership and maximizing value.”
For his part, Mansoor Humayun, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Minx, said: “The ability to raise the quality of low-concentration materials in an economically viable and export-compliant manner is a major challenge for the tin, tungsten and tantalum supply chains across the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This partnership combines applied artificial intelligence, long-term investment commitment, and operational efficiency to address this challenge at scale.”
This agreement is in line with Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s broader strategic direction in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and follows the signing of an initial agreement to develop and operate a multi-purpose terminal in the country’s Matadi Port.
The integration of port infrastructure, and enhancing value in the initial stages of the supply chain with the support of artificial intelligence technologies, contribute to consolidating the role of Abu Dhabi Ports Group as an integrated enabler of trade. In addition, this collaboration highlights Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s growing contribution to African markets, while expanding its influence beyond port infrastructure and logistics services, by employing advanced digital technologies to create added value across industrial sectors.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo is strategically located in the heart of Central Africa, making it a vital regional trade gateway. These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to strengthening the country’s connection to global markets and supporting long-term sustainable economic development.
