An Egyptian arbitration crew was suspended after the “strangest mouse incident”

The Egyptian Football League’s second division (professional league) witnessed a strange incident yesterday, as a referee relied on video assistant technology via a phone, even though the technology is not used in this division.
The Egyptian Football Association Referees Committee decided to suspend the referees of the Tanta and Telecom Egypt match, and referred the incident for investigation.
The Referees Committee stated in an official statement, “Following the events that took place in the match between Tanta and Telecom Egypt, within the professional league, and after receiving the individual written reports from the aforementioned referees: arena referee Abdel Aziz Al-Sayyed, first assistant Walid Mamdouh, second assistant Shehab Rashed, and fourth referee Hossam Hassan, the committee decided to suspend them from their duties in all grades and competitions until further notice.”
She confirmed, “The incident will be referred to the authority responsible for the investigation to take the final decision, in accordance with the applicable regulations.”
Al-Sayed, the referee of the aforementioned match, ruled for the application of video technology (VAR) by resorting to a mobile phone through his assistants, to analyze a mistake by Telecom Egypt, even though this technology is not applied in the second degree.
The referee awarded a penalty kick in favor of Telecom Egypt, but after reviewing the game, it became clear to him that the foul came from outside the penalty area, so he retracted his decision.
