Shabab Al-Ahly defeats Buriram of Thailand… and reaches the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League

Shabab Al-Ahly qualified for the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League for the Elite, after its exciting victory over Buriram United of Thailand, 3-2, after extending for two additional periods, in a strong confrontation within the quarter-finals held in Jeddah today, Saturday.

The “Knights” started the match perfectly, opening the scoring early in the 13th minute, after a cross ball from Gomez hit the Thai team’s defender and landed in the net. Shabab Al-Ahly continued their advantage during the first half, creating several chances through Cartabia and Yuri Cesar, but they did not succeed in increasing the score.

At the beginning of the second half, Saeed Ezzatullah added the second goal in the 49th minute, bringing the team close to deciding the match, before the excitement returned again, after the referee awarded a penalty kick for Buriram, from which Guilherme scored the first goal in the 64th minute, then the Thai team equalized in the 70th minute with a powerful shot.

The match headed into extra time, where Renan succeeded in scoring the winning goal for Shabab Al-Ahly in the 93rd minute, clinching qualification to the semi-finals for the first time in 11 years.

Shabab Al-Ahly will face the Japanese team Machida in the semi-finals on April 21 at 20:15, in a confrontation during which the team seeks to continue its journey towards the final.
